Foot Sprain! It's been a year and a half now, please please help!!

by sophie2254, Mar 11, 2008 09:30AM
Hi,
I'm 19 years old and in October 2006 I tripped over a broken paving stone and sprained my foot (not ankle). I did not follow the RICE procedure, which I regret so so so much now. But I didn't know that was what I was meant to do - it may sound stupid, and it was, but there's not much I can do to change it now. The next day I was meant to be doing some charity work which I had committed myself to, and so stupidly, I took lots of painkillers and basically stood/walked on my foot all day even though it was really painful and I could barely walk...

Anyway, it was about healed by mid December 2006 and then (stupid again) I had to run to get a university essay in on time and after I stopped running my foot began to hurt again and got worse and worse. I worked over Christmas in a shop where I had to stand up all the time (I had no other choice as I needed the money) but my foot was again about better by mid February 2007.

It was then pretty much okay until mid August 2007 when I woke up one morning and it felt kind of achy and tender, and from then on it got worse and worse. Again (I know this is ridiculous), it was about better by mid December 2007 but once again I had to run to get a university essay in on time!! (you probably realise that timekeeping isn't my best quality...) and ever since then its been hurting.

Basically it feels really achy and tight when I walk and when I walk I have to walk really slowly. It's my left foot and the pain/ache is like, if you drew a line from the bottom of the big toe to the left side of the ankle - the problem is with the part of the foot to the left of the line.

I have been to the doctors like 4 times and they just don't do anything. I just don't know what to do anymore. These years are meant to be the best of my life and its making me so miserable. I am studying in China for a university semester at the moment (Feb - Jun) and I don't think I'm ever going to be able to have an opportunity like this again - all my friends want to go travelling, see places, do things etc, and I can go for small walks but I can't walk for a whole day or carry a backpack or do any of these things and it really really upsets me. I just want someone to help so I can stop letting my foot make me miserable and dictate what I can do and can't do and  stop me from participating in all the amazing opportunities that I am probably never going to get again.

Sorry for such a long post but I REALLY REALLY need someone to help me.

Thank you so much.

Sophie.
