Sister diagnosed with Endo Cervix Cancer stage III

by BriM, Mar 11, 2008 10:23AM
Hi, my sister was recently diagnosed with Endo Cervix Cancer stage III, and the only reason I know this is my mother had told me.  My sister won't tell me, as she thinks I will worry too much?  I am currently deployed in Afghanistan and it is killing me not knowing what it is she has or what stage III is compared to stage I or II?  My mom is going to the doctor with her today to find out more and hopefully be able to tell me what is going on!  I am just frustated and can do nothing while over here, and was wondering how bad Stage III is and what is it?  I have done multiple searches on the internet and am more confused then ever.  I know it would help to know what type and what the cancer consists of but, any information on how I can help my sister would be much appreciated.  She is about to turn 30 and has 3 children, the latest is just over one and that is how she found out that something is wrong, but I think it is taking a long time to find out and have it dealt with, I mean what are her options?  I am sorry, I am just frustrated and worried at the same time, as I am over in this place when I wish I could be back in the states where I don't know what I could do but be there for her?

Hi.  Stage 3 cervical cancer means that the tumor has extended beyond the uterus and has already reached either the walls of the pelvis or the lower third of the vagina.  Stage 3 disease could also mean that the tumor has caused enough blockage on the urinary tract. This results in the urine being dammed back into the kidney and causing the kidney to swell (hydronephrosis) and to shut down (become non-functional).  Stage 3 cervical cancer is still potentially curable with a combination of surgery, radiation and chemotherapy, but only about 30 - 50% of women with this stage survive after five years.
