Ouch! Pain in jaw after fillings

I had all of my wisdom teeth removed 3 weeks ago. No complications, not much pain. I went to a dentist over a week later to have my teeth filled and get a cleaning. The dentist said I healed very quickly from the wisdom teeth extraction. During the the filling process, I started feeling intense aching in my left jaw area. I told the dentist and he prescribed Darvocet. When I got home, I could barely open my mouth and then felt a ball on my cheek on he left side. I woke the next morning with great swelling and unbearable pain. Called dentist, he said to wait it out over the weekend. (I called on a friday). Here it is Tuesday, swelling has come down. Still have a large ball on my jaw and tons of pain. Still having hard time opening my jaw. My face is also sensitive to the touch where the ball exists. I called the dentist, cannot get me in a for a couple of days. Any suggestions for the pain? What may possibly going on here?

Based on the imformation provided, I would suspect soft tissue emphysema., in which condition is caused by air entrapped in the soft tissue durng dental procedure.The emphysema tends to subside within 48-72 hours.
