sparks when moving eyes and peripheral flashes

by alper89, Mar 11, 2008 01:05PM
Hi,

Im 19, myopic since birth and i had my first RD in 1996 when i was 7 in my right eye.I've had 2 surgeries, which were scleral buckling with some cryo i guess.6 years later another RD developped in my left eye. Also repaired with 2 surgeries (second one was vitrectomy) and lasers.

In the last 2 months i've been having flashes in my left and right upper corner of my right eye, especially during nights but not all the time, also noticed some new small dot shaped floaters. But not too many and i dont see them all the time. Flashes seem to be less effective in last few days.

Recently, (1 week ago) my ophtalmologist detected some weak areas in my right eye's retina and secured with laser. After that i started to see a small spark in the right corner of that eye, seeing when moving eyes, but not so big and not noticable everytime. Also noticed one bigger dot shaped floater 2 days ago.

Last time my doctor checked my eye with these symptoms 4 days ago, he said retina is fine and theres nothing wrong.

I dont have any vision loss or any other changes in my vision. I've experienced 4 RD before so i know how they start and look like. But im so scared if everything is happening again. After some research i think it may be PVD. But not so sure. Will these go worse or i may expect to get better?

No one can tell you the future, for better or worse we just don't know. You would do well to continue to be followed by your retina Eye MD as directed but no less than once/year.

Thanks for help.

I'll continue to follow changes in my vision. Im seeing my doctor every 6 months regularily in normal conditions. I think all i can do is hope for the best.
