Menstruating since 2/26/08

by maof2angels, Mar 13, 2008 01:16PM
Hi! I'm 33 years old and a mother of 2. I've been menstruating since Feb. 26, 2008. It was heavy for about 5 days and now it's just a light flow. I've done researched on what could have caused the irregularity but had no luck on determining the cause except hormone imbalance. I don't have any other symptoms and pregnancy is out of the question unless my husband's vasectomy 3 or 4 years ago healed miraculously.  Any thoughts on what's going with my body? Thanks a bunch.

Hello,

Often at the onset of a change in a woman's menstruation it is hard to know the exact cause.  At this point the most helpful thing to do is to keep a menstrual diary tracking when you are bleeding and how much.   If you have a notable change in your menstrual cycle for more than three months you should present to your ob/gyn to discuss this with them and they should then pursue a workup.  Some reasons a woman's menses may change are uterine polyps or fibroids, pregnancy, thyroid hormone changes, or anovulation.

If you experience heavy bleeding (using a pad an hour for more than four hours) you should see a physician urgently.

Best regards,

Dr. Downing
