Point of Service Plan

by cordovamom, Mar 13, 2008 03:08PM
We currently reside in Tennessee, my husband has been offered a job where he'll work remotely in Tennessee and his employer is based in Wisconsin.   The company's health care plan is a regional one that operates in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa.   When asked how health care would be handled for us in Tennessee, the company has come up with the idea that they will pay my husband's COBRA from his current employer for the next 18 months and at the end of the 18 months they will add a point of service rider to their existing health care plan.   What are the pitfalls of doing this?   I'm a little nervous about what will happen if they don't have a POS in place when our COBRA expires.   Thanks for your help.

Dear cordovamom,

Not sure if you don't trust your husband's new employer or wonder if adding a POS is an option. To overcome the second concern, ask your husband's new employer to verify with their current Carrier, if adding a POS is an option.
Staying on COBRA will enable you to keep the same exact coverage you have now.

Sincerely,
