previous hpv and recenr abnormal bleeding

by lexijean712, Mar 13, 2008 11:01PM
I am 22 1/2 years old. I have two children ( 1 & 2 1/2). I had an Essure ( permenant birth control) procedure done on September 4th 2007. prior to that ( august 29) i had a Depo-prevera shot. After the surgery I started bleeding. I still have not stopped besided maybe a day here and a day there. It has went between spotting to heavy ( 1 pad every hour) bleeding. My big concern is, When I was 17 I had an abnormal pap smear and then a LEEP biopsy. With the LEEP biopsy it was confirmed that I had HPV. Since then I have changed OB/GYNs and Nothing has been said about it. I also have an Hx of ovarian cysts. I have contacted my GYN and he is on vacation and cannot see me until April 1st. I don't know if any of these things have to do with each other but I would just like some advice. Thank you.

Hi.  If the vaginal bleeding is really heavy, I think you should consider consulting with another gynecologist sooner, rather than waiting until April 1.  I'm just concerned that your condition might worsen while you're waiting for your doctor to return.  Are you still taking depo-provera? If you're not, I suspect that an abrupt withdrawal of that hormone could have precipitated the vaginal bleeding.  But this is just my theory.  I don't think that your HPV infection has anything to do with the bleeding.  If you're thinking of malignancy as a possible cause of the bleeding, I think that this is highly unlikely.  Cervical cancer takes years, even decades to develop from the original HPV infection, if at all.
