Pain from Crown Lengthening

by Jennyfeet, Mar 14, 2008 08:50AM
I am one week post op from crown lengthening on tooth 31 and I am still in horrible pain even with heavy duty pain killers.  Went back to oral surgeon yesterday and he said their is no infection that I have I have "post operative swelling" and prescribed a six day steriod treatment and was told that I would have "relief within a few hours".  I am halfway through day two and still in severe pain.  It feels like the inside of my cheek is hanging over and rubbing up against the gum line.  I'm leaving for Mexico next week with my family and I can't even concentrate because I'm in pain.  Please tell me this is going to get better.  If there was light at the end of the tunnell I could just hand in there.  HELP!

I recommend that you contact your surgeon and discuss your concerns.  Your continued severe pain is unusual for a crown lengthening procedure.  If you are not satisfied with the surgeons response then you should seek a second opinion from either another oral surgeon or a periodontist.

If the tooth never had root canal therapy then the pulp (nerve) inside the tooth may be inflammed or infected requiring additional treatment.
