AVM

by Pauly_girl, Mar 14, 2008 12:48PM
I have just been diagnosed as having an AVM - An Arteriovenous Malformation.  I may have had it since birth. I have been experiencing a loud whishing/pulsing sound in my right ear since last October which was dismissed at first as tennitis. I can only sleep at night with the aid of a Brookstone white noise sound maker. After first going to a ENT (who thought the noise was coming from my heart), and then back to my internist who determined I have a bruil behind my right ear, An MRI and MRA were ordered. I was alarmed to see that the back of my neck from behind my right ear down looks like a mess of tangled veins and arteries and is really asymmetrical to my left side.  I have no other symptoms other than the noise in my ear at this time.  There are no malignancies, tumors, or aneurysms.  My internist is in the process of consulting a vascular surgeon and a neurogologist in Tucson (U of A Medical Center) to determine what should be about it. He has told me not to worry. Should I beconcerned?  Are there any good questions to ask, or things to watch out for as I go through the diagnosis process?  Does getting rid of the sound usually entail surgery?
