Muscle Consern

My husband has lost approx. 35 lbs in 2 months. First fever, then watch as the muscle swells, fever subsides, them muscle pain. This is traveling throught out the body at random, Legs, Shoulders, Arms, etc.. Best way he can explain is like a mega contious "Charlie Horse" through all his muscles at the same time.  In the past these symptoms usually went away in a few days. This time it is going on about 2 months as of today. Now his 2 fore fingers are swollen and he has no strenght to even open a tylenol bottle. He is 46 yrs old and this has happened on and off for a few years now. He was in the Gulf War, and is a big man of about 6.2",strong and heathly until now. This is like being okay one day and disabled overnight. We have been to the VA hosptial they treated him with muscle relaxers and pain pills. They aren't helping. Now they are refering to a Rheumatology. Any suggestions or opitions would be nice, maybe I could do some layman research on the internet or something, very worried here. Thanks for any help.

In the last couple of sentences I wrote, I meant that the Pills were not helping. The VA has been great.

Did anyone respond to your husband's issues?  My father is suffering from many of the same symptons and we are looking for help to improve his declining lifestyle.

Does anyone know of any specialist for degenerative muscle disease?
