strange baby hip thrusting??

my 1 year old daughter sometimes does a strange sort of thrusting with her hips! sometimes she will sit on my lap facing me an then start doing it, rubbing herself against me! other times she does it on the floor but while she's doing it i cant distract her from it! she really concentrates and goes into a world of her own, when she stops, she might stand up or pick up a toy or something but then suddenly will lie back down and start doing it again!
its a really strange behavior! it makes me quite uncomfortable because sometimes it actually looks as though she is masturbating! i know this is stupid as she is only 1 year old but i just cant understand why she does it!!
please help!! thanks deva

It is entirely possible that the motion does provide her with an enjoyable sensation; that's OK. The behavior is not something to worry about.

My little sister was doing this at about age 2.  It made me wonder if she was uncomfortable or itchy down there. If you are really concerned you could ask here doctor to examine her.
