Possible meningioma?

by ak1177, Mar 16, 2008 08:25PM
Hi,

I recently received an mri scan as part of a general research study and was graciously given a copy of some coronal slices of my own choosing.  After reviewing the various slices I noticed a coronal slice of my brain with a unexpected assymetry at the visual cortex.  I wanted to ask whether it may be a lesion or a meningioma of sorts.

Due to the indirect method through which I obtained this scan, I would rather get the opinion of a radiologist before raising alarm bells with my GP.  Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks,

AK

Hello.

Meningioma is commonly found in the frontal lobes at the parasagittal region. You can distinctly see the tumor margins. But the tumor may be seen at other locations, but less frequently so.

Do you have any symptoms that hint towards a brain tumor (space occupying lesion)?

Regards

Thanks for your quick response.  When I was in my teens, on rare occassions I would experience somewhat of a blackout that was very short lived, while being able to maintain a standing posture.  That has not been a problem for a couple of years.

But perhaps related, perhaps not, while driving long distances, I am usually stricken by a sudden and unrelenting drowsiness that I cannot shake by loud music or by opening the window.  (which is why I avoid long distance journeys).  It often goes away when I have a surge of adrenaline or if I take a moment to close my eyes and rest.

These latter symptoms are seldom and predictable and something I have usually attributed to lack of sleep.  That is, unless this is abnormal for a person with 5-6 hours of sleep.
