Dermatitis Or Fungal Infection?

by complexderm1, Mar 16, 2008 11:38PM
went to dermatologist complaining of burning sensation in mustache area and dry yet oily skin on my cheeks which would not subside after drinking 60 ounces of water a day.

diagnosed with perioral dermatitis and given “klaron,” and doxycycline: month went by and my condition appeared the same or worse -spread to my cheeks/nose, also developed itching only in the night-time

tried Lotrimin on my upper lip & within 3 days the burning sensation decreased except on cheeks where I hadn't been applying the lotrimin as long

second dermatologist said still felt it was bacterial & prescribed noritate 1% & minocycline

A B vitamin deficiency & fungal infection exacerbated?

A) I have 10 out of 12 symptoms for b vitamin deficiency
B) would result in weakened immune response

A week before I noticed skin issues- went to the doctor because of sharp pain in left eye, feeling like "sand" in eye. white of my eye had a small red dot.  I had not been eating, drinking 5 cups of coffee a day, a TON of sugar at night, stressed out, got sick-- was living on caffeine & carbs. & fingers tingling Had chapped lips, corners of mouth split, & mouth-sores.  With doxycycline, burning in eyes & sensitivity to light worse.

lotrimin was the only effective treatment

tinea barbae/versiclr?
this began a few weeks after a new puppy up from a farm. scratched my face in the mustache area & also nuzzled face with hers

trichomycosis?
this began a few weeks after I used same trimmer on face as my affected pubic hair.
synergistic infection with Trichosporon beigelii[symptoms include BURNING]?

Demodex?
Two weeks before this was staying in hostels. symptoms are spot-on, especially the itching/crawling sensation at night

good idea to take a look at the SEBUM OIL & HAIR on face?

treating my face with antibiotics & cleansers that dont remove excess oil lead to yeast/demodex & night itching??

how'd this go from burning mustache/dryness to burning & itching on mustache/cheeks/nose?

Some additional information:

There is a slight pinkish coloration to the area where I initially felt the burning (mustache area).  Two weeks into treatment I developed an elongated oval-shaped red patch on the left side of my nose where I experience itching during the day.  unless I use lotrimin or ciclopirox olamin cream.

Recent Illnesses:
Also, I came down with a terrible "cold?" the last two days I was in europe and it took quite some time to finally feel better after the initial effects subsided. Symptoms included a terrible sore throat and headache, fever.

A week before this all started I also experienced flu-like symptoms including the chills, general "malaise," etc for about 5 days.

I read there are certain types of strep that can cause skin infections as well.

What is the best course of action in terms of testing ?
