Shooting pains in left arm and temple

For some time now I will get the occasional sharp, shooting pains that start in my left arm and radiate up to my left temple. It is excruciatingly painful even though it lasts only a few seconds. I usually have a small headache on the left side of my head after several of these little episodes. I have been getting them more and more lately and they are starting to scare me a little. I had 3 within the past hour or so.
I'm just wondering if I need to be concerned or if there is some reasonable explanation for this. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
