lens implant

I had catatract surgery around 7 years ago in both eyes with lens implants. I have not had any problems with my eyes other than the normal light reflective problems at night and in direct sun with out sunglasses. However, yesterday at the supermarket I suddenly developed what I thought was a new "floater". It was dark and long. In a few minutes it seemed to break up and by the time I got home it was gone. When this happened I could also see a type of flashing light around the lens of that eye when I blinked. Every so often now,I see this light when I blink. This just happened yesterday. My vision seems fine. Should I worry?

Yes, worry. Get in to see your Eye MD tomorrow. It may just be a posterior vitreous detachment but having had cataract surgery you are at an increased risk of retinal detachment.

Use the searach feature and read about PVD, and RD.

Anytime you see a new large floater (and especially flashing lights) it's important to get an exam by an optomologist. There is risk (low) of retinal detachement with those symptoms, but you need to get it checked out. find a doctor at aao.org if you need one.
