SEVERE PAIN IN CALF PLEASE HELP

by jesinicki, Mar 17, 2008 08:53AM
I need help! My dad walked into the house this morning and he sudenly fell down screaming with intense muscle pains. He said it felt like someone shot him and he even went outside to check. Externally he looks fine. The pain lasted about 10mins without lessening and was unexplainable. I said it might be due to his job; He's a contractor and constantly lifting and carrying and moving without ever stetching, so perhaps a muscle snapped. But, he was feeling the pain in his left calf and in the area alone.  His medications are normal and as far as my family knows he had no fever, but was sweating from its severity. We tried to take him to the hospital but he refused. He was limping about 10 mins afterwards saying it was more tolerable. Of course, his legs have had small tolerable pains but nothing as concerning as this. I'm afraid it might be serious.  If it is he would visit a doctor. let me know.  The pain (2 hours later) is still persistent as of 9:50.

A good trip to the doc is in order. They should see if is electrolytes are off, check his liver, kidneys, the whole works. Also they should check him for any vascular like diseases to rule out anything like that. I woke up in pain like that this morning. I myself have been losing fluids too much and am going to a nephrologists tomorrow hoping he can help. I get leg pain like that all the time and it is a word I wont say. I am sorry he is suffering and I am happy you care about him and are trying to help. Have him go to the ER if the pain is so bad, so he can at least be evaluated and helped. Peace

Thank you.  I'll let him know what might be the cause.

Hi, if it was a severe muscle cramp, make sure he is getting adequate calcium and potassium amounts. Good luck.
