Wisdom Tooth Infection

by Anicka42, Mar 17, 2008 04:08PM
About five days ago, I began experiencing some pain in the back of my jaw.  I immediately assumed it was my wisdom teeth (three of them are through the gum, one is not).  The pain moved from my teeth to the side of my face, the base of my tongue, and down my throat.

I started taking over-the-counter pain reliever and using numbing gel, and this helps, but the pain persisted.  I finally called my dentist to ask what he thought, and he said it sounded like a piece of food was stuck under the gum where my wisdom teeth are coming through, and was causing discomfort.  He recommended using the gel to numb the area, then cleaning under the gum with peroxyl spot gel.  He said that after I did that, the pain should go away quickly.  OR, I should numb the area, clean under the gum with one of those rubber tips, then rinse with Peroxyl.

Since I couldn't find the peroxyl spot gel, I did the latter.  However, I can't seem to get this to work!  I can't get all around the tooth because everything is so crowded back there, it's painful to attempt, my jaw is sore, so I can't open it that wide, and yet the pain continues!  Help!

Systemic administration of antibiotics is the treatment of choice for infection. Seeing a dentist ASAP is advised
