Demyelinating Diseases

After complaining on neck spasms leading into hand numbness when positioning my chin to my chest, my physician sent me for an mri of the cervical spine.  The finding demonstrated areas of abnormal high signal in the spinal cord running from c2 through c6.  Differential considerations include demyelinating disease.

The report continues stating Linear bands of increased signal are seen in the central portion of the spinal cord, just posterior of the central canal.

They question MS and called for a brain MRI.   Results of that MRI state no areas of abnormal signal intensity within the brain paenchyma.  No mass or mass effect idenitfied.  No evidence of enhancement.  Negative MRI.

(Also, No lesions of the bone are identified.  No evidence of herniated disc.  No tumor can be identified.  Does not believe it represents a syrinx.)

So, what next?  What are some other diseases that would result in having a demyelinating disease?  But have no signs on a brain MRI?  There is a tremondous amount of family history in autoimmune disorders ranging from ms to sjogrens to fibromylagia and throidism.  What can I expect moving forward to determine cause?  Would JRA as a child have caused this damage?

Thank you.
