How does inpatient detox work?

I'm sure that a lot of people on this forum have been to an in patient detox place one time or maybe more. I was wondering if anyone would tell me a little bit about how it works. I can't afford to go to a private place so I'm pretty much just going to be going to the county hospital's place.

Do they give you something to help you sleep while you're in there? Or maybe Valium or something to help you relax?

Anyone who could enlighten me, I'd be really grateful.

Morning,
I dont know where you are..but here in Canada...They admit you.....you get a bed...you cant have any kind of drugs on you...even some makeup supplies you arent allowed....
You cant have any drugs or access to them unless you absoutly need them..and if you have a script they will only give them to you at your required time....if its a narcotic though, I am not sure about htat....have never run into it....

all detoxes are different if they call themselves a medically supervised detox you will get something, i went in the late 90's and was given Robaxin for muscles catapress for blood pressure ambien to sleep bentyl for stomach cramps and a  darvon taper.. that was when i did heroin in my teens. i was a minor so i didn't get methodone. some places do methadone taper i did that when i was 19 they tapered me in 9 days. that was the easiest. post back if you have anymore questions i am in FL too what part do you live in.

Yea....it depends really where you are....and what kind of medications you usually use...Most detoxs will give something that isnt narcotic...but for muscle aches well.....thats different..

but really it would depend on the detox in your area....

@ tink & fladdict - i'm in orlando, the northeast side of it

@ tink - im going to go in for percs. been taking about 12 5mg's a day or so, some days it varies. but the last couple of days i have myself down to 2 a day. pretty impressive but i keep feeling like im going to relapse soon and i know if i keep tapering myself eventually ill give into temptation. i just want it done and completely out of my system, then i'll work on my personal demons from there. pretty much dreading going in and im scared of what it will be like. i imagine hospitals to be cold and uncaring.

Many FL detoxes differ from one another. Some will give you next to nothing, others will go overboard. Many have switched to using Suboxone/ Subutex to withdraw you, but I have heard mixed reviews about it. Look, trust me when I tell you that EASIER is not always better. I have ten months clean now and I will never forget detoxing. I choose to hold on to that pain and it helps me stay clean. I know I NEVER want to feel that way again, not just physically, but mentally especially. Just so you know, they detoxed me with darvocet and a very, very mild benzo. Good luck with everything, just remember, it's not going to be comfortable. If it was, you wouldn't mind going through it again and again.
