Back problems

by martica43, Mar 18, 2008 02:49PM
My husband has evidence of a transitional lumbosacral junction.  Multilevel degenerative disc disease with disc desiccation and disc bulges.  He also has a degenerative facet arthropathy as well.  Prominence of the epidural fat is noted at the L5-S1 level which results in some compression of the thecal sac.
He is also being diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy////  He is having lots of problems when he stands up. After two or three minutes his legs start shaking and he has to look for a place to sit or lean. Any suggestions?

Hello.

Your husband is having all these problems due to a possible compression of the nerve roots at the lower lumbar level. He will need to get this compression treated. Conservative means of management are not that helpful. He will have to think of surgical correction of the condition. The spinal surgeon may think of repairing the spine with fusion.
