Shooting up Delotid

My brother is addicted to Delotid. He has alot of pain from falling off of a 3 story building, and needs some type of pain relief. Someone apparently showed him how to shoot it and he now has a problem with it. He lies to me all the time, then tells me the truth later. When he tries to quit taking it, he freaks out, does crazy stuff. He really wants to get off of it, but we can't seem to find help out there, without paying thousands of dollars. What type of stuff can we do to start his road to recovery. I can't kill his dealer... not yet. Even if I did, he would find it somewhere else eventually. Please help.

We both have addictive personalities. I am trying to help him cope with it, by limiting our conversations, trying not to talk about things that trigger it, offering to go out with him, trying to have a good time doing something else. Doing other drugs, like marijuana, or drinking a beer, would that make things worse, or would it help with satisfying his urges? I just dont know what to do. He is about to lose everything

Welcome, i have no expereince with diliduid......But have you checked into any kind of state facilities?  Also does he have any kind of insurance, medicaid, or disablity?
there has to be a place that can take him, you just may have to search alot..

I have used dilaudid in the samme manner and it is an opiate. If he wants to quit using and has the oportunity to go into treatment all the better. If he will have to use pain management and expect to use other narcotics (opiates) there is hell to pay for all of it. I am just getting off morphine and the withdrawals are not nice, but doable and you have to want to quit to go through that without giving in to the call. It is possible to withdraw without treatment, but is easier to do it the latter way if he can. I chose not to do treatment and d am still working on it right now. Tell him to post and read the posts here and it will help tremendously and then he can choose which route to go. We all have to find an alternative route to pain management besides the way of the narcotics.

It's a serious drug, that feels much like heroin. Addicts usually find herion when they run out or can't find any delotid. He doesn't have any insurance, he paid one facility in North Carolina from loans, but they turned out to be a bunch of assholes that were in it for the money. They ended up dropping him off in some crack town city, telling him that "he better lock his room up tight and order a pizza, because you can get any drug you want in this town." We ended up having to go get him. He is trying to get his money back, no luck yet. Can't afford to send him somewhere else now.

there are state run facilities in all states i think.  there may be a waiting list, but it is better than nothing lol....they may be able to help you in the mean time.  good luck and like mike said get him on here.

Yes...he needs to start posting...Dilaudid is a very strong narcotic and many choose it as you can shoot it up....I am not sure how to search for free clinics..perhaps someone else does tho....I know there are methadone clinics but i have seen from being on here that is a big bad idea....hopefull some on will posy about access to free addiction rehab help..or maybe make a new post about it

Look in the bluepages of your phonebook under local agencys i.e drug and alcohol dependance or you could also look up NA and see if they have any numbers that you could call for help. Best of luck to you.

I also injected Dilaudid, IV.  Dilaudid has a very strong potential for stopping your respiratory drive and it is a drug easily overdosed on.  I stopped injecting Dilaudid 2 months ago.  It was necessary for me to wean the drug for 1 week, every day I had a litlle less. until I quit.  Really awful withdrawals.  I experienced a lot of "user dreams and now I look back and it was probably one week of utter hell.  I could only eat applesauce. Then oneday, magically I felt better. My problem is that I was also taking about 10 7.5/500 hydrocodone per day.  Since, I have also weaned off of those and today is my first day "clean".   Oddly enough I don't feel bad yet.  I am waiting for my world to come crashing down but it hasnt yet.  Please tell your brother he CAN do it!!!! I quit IV Morphine and IV Dilaudid and I was taking 3 time the lethal doses of both meds in addition to the hydros (maybe I had a death wish).  Hon I promise he can do it.  He needs someone to be his advocate in weaning the dose at least 1 or 1 and 1/2 weeks before quitting.  Otherwise, if he is like me I think I may have gone into some kind of shock or killed myself.  My recovery after weaning the iv dilaudid was about 1 week and then I felt better. I cannot however tell you that it was maybe the hydros that were helping me.  Actually I think it would have been better to get everything overwith at the same time but I didnt have the courage.  the people on this website are outstanding and I bought the nutritional supplements suggested by the thomas recipe although I did not choose to do the benzo's.  Hugs and well wishes to you.  IT CAN BE DONE I AM LIVING PROOF  I wish you and your brother the best

Oh Steven, and also, for me the Dilaudid  acted as a stimulant as strange as it may sound.  It was the only way for me to be awake and get things done.  I tried some beer/wine to help me with the crazy anxiety I felt but it made me vomit perfusely and actually cased more pain.  2 drinks gave me a bad hangover and I felt worse than ever.  It would be great if you could find a trustable family doctor to help your brother detox under anesthesia or maybe prescribe xanax or something to help his suffering.  I wish I could help more.  I too felt desperate not knowing what to do or where to go for help.  I promise it does get better.  The withdrawals will go away!  Actually the hydrocodone weaning achedule made me feel worse than the dilaudid. only maybe because it was more prolonged.  You will be in my thoughts all day and I will be wishing you well. Dailaudid is an opiate, generic is hydromorphone.  it is stronger than iv morphine.  Heroin converts into morphine and this is what gets the users hooked.  Honey dilaudid is a very serious drug to mess with iv.  I think the only way I quit was to use hydrocodones, and then wean them.  It is a dangerous game to play to trade one addiction for another.  If your brother is like me he may be so desperate that there is no other way.  If comes down to iv dilaudid or methadone i would choose methadone, or maybe doc would give him lortab.  If it is life or death i would choose pill addiction over iv dilaudid.  I quit 2 months ago and even posting about it now is making me feel crazy.  The drug has a very powerful attraction.  it almost killed me.  I wish you the best dont want to scare you just want you to know what your dealing with.  He can quit I promise!!!!! Although I am craving I am determined enouggh to recover that I am going for a walk now and I will make it through this craving.  I wish you well

GET HIM ON THE FORUM!  So he can be helped by the Angels here!  If he wants to quit he can, and until he gets to a facility he needs to readdd read read the other's stories!   My Daughter shot dilaudid, and is now dead!  We dont want that for your brother and I have FAITH in the people on this forum.  And the w.d's will start BUT with the help of everyone here he can do this and LIVE!  And keep trying to get him in recovery!

If you can't get insurance to get into a rehab you can try to see if there is an addiction specialist in your area. My son had a 3 year heroin addiction and the waiting lists for rehab were so long that I took him to an  MD who specialized in addiction. There is a drug called suboxone that will wean a person so physical wd is not so bad. I had to go with him in order for the doc to even see him and it was my job to hold and taper his pills over about a week. He didn't have any serious physical wd but started using the day the pills ran out. I didn't know this until a month or so later. We had a follow up apt. and the doc gave us opiate blockers and we would have him show us his mouth after he swallowed them , which he never did , and we couldn't tell. These will block your opiate recepors and if you use an opiate you will get sick. This was about $360 for the doc and $120 for meds about 4 yrs. ago. . He was very serious about wanting to quit and he was the one that arranged everything but it still didn't work that time. He needed in house rehab and a halfway house w intensive treatment in relapse prevention. I was able to get him arrested and help him get to rock bottem bc he was dying in front of my eyes.He's been clean for 3 years April 2. He went to meetings 1-2 times a day for the first 2 years and although I wish he still was is no longer going but keeps in touch with his sponcer weekly. The point is it's damn hard and if he's not even looking for help he can go to rehab dozens of times and will not stop. You need NA  and lots of support after. Esp with a drug that potent. Not relapsing is the hardest part. Learn how not to enable and for goodness sake don,t encourage booze and pot. Maybe if he seriously wants to stop and can't go to rehab the specialist would work. Ive heard of someone that didn't go back to using afterward. Best Luck, Corey
