severe pain from hematoma

by Irma41, Mar 18, 2008 03:48PM
My husband has surgery on his calf about 4 weeks ago. Several days after surgery he developed a hematoma.  It swelled up and was very red and purple from his knee to his toes.  The swelling has gone done but he is in constant pain where the hematoma originated.  Is this normal? he previously had a hematoma on his hip from a bicycle accident and had some pain, but nothing like this.  the pain never goes away even with pain medication.
thank you,
Irma

I think he should see a doctor as soon as he can. He should call his surgeon at the very least and discuss this, if they don't have time, then seek out the help of a specialist. It is just best to make sure something else is not the actual culprit here since he has had a hematoma before. A hematologist or rheumatologist might be able to help you, but get ahold of the doc that did the surgery (Pronto). This is just my opinion. I hope your hubby gets better soon and that his leg feels better. Peace
