our son started swimming classes at around 2years and now at almost 4 he has developed a fear of the swimming pool. it is hard enough gettin him in and now he hates the thought of underwater (water in his eyes) even though he will put his goggles on. whats annoying is that he was great at it. how can i get him back in the swing......or what has caused it.
he has never had a traumetic experience with water
It's perfectly normal for children this age to start becoming scared of different things. They start to realize that there may be things in the dark, the potty might "swallow" them, etc. My 4 yr old is scared of the dark, even when there is a night light on, and is also scared of the potty flushing (thanks to those darn automatic toilets!! ARGH!)
It's a phase, they'll get through it. UNDERSTAND their fears, don't tell them there isn't anything to be afraid of, but that you understand and try to find something to help.
