asthma or pneumonia

by sesana, Mar 20, 2008 06:04AM
Hello, my son is 3 years old. He is diagnosed with asthma. From 10 days he has cough and snot. Sometimes when he is sleeping he can't breath good and statrs coughing a lot /coughing fit/. He has no temperature, eats as normal, there are no changes in his behavior at all. His doctor thinks it is his asthma, but an X-ray picture shows starting pneumonia. Again his doctor said it is normal for his condition and there is no need for antibiotics. Is this possible?

His pneumonia could be viral and an antibiotic won't help.  My son had pneumonia 5 times and only 2 of the times it was bacterial.  Bacterial pneumonia shows differently on an x-ray than viral.  I would keep in close touch with the doctor to make sure there aren't any complications and if you haven't had him allergy tested you need to do so.
