is depression genetic?

by sewpretty, Mar 21, 2008 02:09PM
Does anyone know the likely hood of mood disorders being passed on to your children?
My baby isn't born yet, but her father's side has a lot of clinical depression and bipolar stuff.
I was just wondering if there have been any studies on this or if it's just basically the "luck of the draw".
web links and information much appreciated.
thanks.

From what I hear, it can be passed on. That is why they ask about depression and mental illnesses when asking about family history.
