my 15 mth old doesn't know when she is full...

by 4angels, Mar 21, 2008 09:47PM
My 15mth old is CONSTANTLY crying for food and the minute i walk in the kitchen she starts dancing b/c she thinks that I am getting her food or drink and when she realizes I am not, she cries, and cries, and cries.  We took her to her Dr. and we were told that she must just have a high metabolism and the Dr. finally ran tests to make us feel better.  The first round of tests came back with one of her thyroid levels off  when she fasted for the test.  The second test came back normal but we were told to have her eat this time before the test.  This child will eat, and eat, and eat.  We limit her to what she has.  She is not overweight by any means, but want to teach her to eat healthy and to learn to not overeat.  When I say she over eat: tonight she ate 3 slices of Papa John's pizza, m&m's and a glass of milk. (Now we don't feed her like that always- just trying to show my husband she really will eat and not get full). She cried when we told her she had enough.  When we sat down to eat, she was crying and begging for our food!  Any suggestions on what we can do????  It's like all she thinks about is food!

From the measurements you stated, she is within the normal height for her age and underweight for her age. She does need to gain some weight. Give her snacks between meals (mid morning, mid afternoon and just before bed time) , which may help her not be so hungry at meals.

she gets snacks between her meals...she eats breakfast at 7:30 am eats a snack at 9:30, lunch @ 11:30 or noon.  she lays down for a 3 hour nap and gets a snack at 3 when she wakes up, then we eat dinner at 5:30 or 6 and she is in bed for 7:30.
she just ALWAYS wants food...it's like that is all she ever thinks about. and for as much as she eats, she gains no weight..she actually lost a few ounces between her 1 yr check up and a dr. visit 2 months later.
