2 EP in 5 months / too many questions

I should be 4 weeks 3 days into my second pregnancy today. Finally went through the 3MW after the tube removal in Nov 2007 and got a BFP on the first try in March 2008. I was in heaven for a short wile. Then all kinds of pain started creeping in. But my new doctor didn't seem concerned and ordered only two beta tests and an initial u/s at 6w2d. The reason for that is probably my two beta results: 110 in 12DPO and 482 in 14DPO. I went to get an u/s on my own and they could only see a fluid filled sac in my uterus. Nothing was seen in my tube yet because it’s probably too early. If my HCG had been rising normally, last night it should be between 1000 and 1500. I was told by the lab that the result was inconclusive. But I did some research and there was paper said that, if your hcg hits a certain level, for most it’s 1000, and you find a pseudo sac in your uterus, it’s almost certain that it’s ectopic. I was looking at the screen too and it definitely wasn’t a gestational sac.

I am in total despair now. My doctor still stubbornly wants me to wait for another two weeks unless I start having severe pain and/or bleeding. But, wouldn’t it be too late when that happens?

The ectopic slowly rising HCG theory never works on me. In my 2 EPs, my HCG doubled every 48 hours or even quadrupled. Maybe that’s why my first EP ruptured so early (6w1d)?

I don’t know what’s going to happen to me next….Why is it that I got pregnant so easily in my tubes? (Both times it happened on first try.) I’ve read most women with problematic tubes just simply don’t get pregnant, and that most EPs would self-resolve themselves. And the doctors don’t seem to know what to do with me because I don’t fit their book knowledge. I feel so useless…..

Hello,

You should continue to have close medical follow up.  The potential for an ectopic pregnancy means there is the potential of a life threatening event in the case of rupture.  You are high risk, given your history and should be followed closely.  If that means seeking care elsewhere then that is what you should do.

Best wishes,

Dr. Downing

I have only had 1 EP, but my HCG did not double, and on U/S there was nothing in my uterus. At 4 weeks it's too early to see the fetal pole or anything and usually you don't see anything until around 2000 so I would try to relax, I know earier said than done.

Also have you had a HSG? You could have something blocking your tubes, hence the egg can't get to the uterus to implant so it goes for your tube since your already there.

Good luck.
