antidepressants and oral anabolic steroids

My husband has been getting extremely depressed since I was drugged and attacked by an old friend(and later to find out 5 of his friends) a few years ago. He was no support for me and blamed me only to now wish I would involve him in my treatment. He was a severe alcoholic and very controlling and verbally abusive until an incident last spring.  He refused to get treatment for depression, anxiety or get marriage counseling.  He recently started ETOH treatment and finally got the Dr. to give him wellbutrin for depression/anxiety.  He had him on St. Johns Wart, Saw Palmetto, Valerian root, a viagra-like drug and I just found out he had been taking oral Steroids from the gym.  He attacked me and repeated the whole incident I had been through but without the help of friends. I had to have stitches and the bruises are healing but he states he doesn't remember anything except seeing a purple hue around the lights then a purple fog around everything.  I can't decide if the drugs he was on could have had this effect on him at the age of 53 or if this is a one time thing.  In 22 years of married he had never been that violent. My PTSD therapist says to divorce him.  My Psychiatrist thinks I am back at square one but a divorce might be a little harsh.  No one can tell me if the drugs could have made him act that way. I did not smell alcohol on his breath.  I am at the end of my rope and can't take much more. I am confused and need stable information so I can start making some decisions.
