Chest pain dilema.

by kazy86, Mar 23, 2008 02:39PM
I'm a 22 year old female with asthma, I’ve had it since i was 2 years of age.

Recently I’ve been getting pain in my chest, it's not like the normal asthma pains and it's been worrying me for a little wile.
The pain is like a sharp stab in the middle or sometimes to the left of my chest but it's constantly there, it has affected my back when my shoulder blades are too, on other occasions it dose restrict my breathing a little but not enough to call it an emergency.
I've been to the doctors once over it and she thought it was pleurisy as i was recovering from a virus at the time but I’m a little uneasy with the idea of having constant pain.
it sometimes gets worse when I do something strenuse, like the other day i walking up 5 flights of stairs and I felt really ill and out of breath, my inhalers never really relived the pain and it took me around 10 minutes to feel a little better.
I do tend to get cold hands and feet but that’s happened a lot and it's ment to come along with asthma any way, i don't do much in the form of sports either so that might contribute.

What I’m asking is do you think that this might be Asthma related or do you think it's something a little different?

thanks.

wow, sorry I can't help you but I have the exact same problem. I don't even have asthma. The pain is random for me, though. I've been to a doctor and they said I was fine. I even have low circulation too. Does it ever come in your armpit area too? idk, sometimes it;s right over my heart, others it's not but close. I'll try to find out what's going on and let you know.

I also have chest pain as you describe. Before I was diagnosed with asthma last year I had an episode where the pain in the chest area caused me to go to the ER. Since I did have blood pressure issues as well, I wound up in ICU for a couple of days before I had a stress test done and found the heart was OK. I developed a severe cough shortly thereafter and was diagnosed with asthma. So my docs and I have determined that chest pain in my case is asthma related. However we keep a close eye on everything since I have other issues.

With all that being said, I would keep my doctors up to date on things and go to the ER if you are in doubt.
