Will my insomnia go away?! Please Help!

by jakesbride110, Mar 24, 2008 01:31PM
I don't know what's wrong with me. I feel so confused. I'm so emotional. I feel like I'm going crazy. I haven't been able to sleep for months! I will finaly go to sleep around 3:00 or 4:00 in the morning and wake up between 7:30 and 10:30. I don't think I'm depressed. I'm too happy of a person. I always want to go on a picnic or go hiking on the weekends with my husband and my dogs. I have been stressed lately because of the rising prices, and my husband and I decided that I have to get a job soon. I don't mind working I just can't ever find anything that I enjoy. I wish I could work at home. Hah that's everyones wish right. That's not the problem though. This insomnia has been going on for months and my husband and I just recently decided I should get a job. So whats wrong with me?! I feel like I'm on my menstrual cycle all month long. I feel like crying one moment because I'm sad, then I feel like crying because something was so sweet or kind. Can anyone help me?! Am I crazy?!

My first suggestion would be, go see your dr. and explain all this to him.  You sound like you got a whole lot of anxiety built up inside, so you lay there and your subconsious is working overtime when it's time for bed.  We are not dr's. on here but I think anybody would suggest the same thing to you.

Good Luck

I saw a Doctor and he suggested sleeping pills and possibly an anti depressant which didn't work. Well I didn't take the anti depressant, I don't think I'm depressed but I do think there is something wrong with me. But with the sleeping pills, when I finally would go to sleep I would sleep until noon, which made me feel horrible like my day was wasted. I can't afford to keep spending hundreds of dollars for a suggestion a friend could have given me. I'm only 22, and my husband and I don't have a whole lot of spare cash. I didn't even feel like a patient, I felt like a paycheck that he was trying to rush out of the office so he could get to his next one. If I could just get some sleep I think I would be back to my old self again and get off this weird emotional roller coaster. I even tried staying up for 48 hours without sleep and that didn't even work!!

I do understand where your coming from. I went through about 4 months on very little sleep due to anxiety, Afraid to go to sleep. My dr. finally put me on a small dose of antidepressant and soon I was finally able to sleep, and sleep I did........  I am not trying to convince you to take any medication that you dont want to, but there are avenue's out there that will help.

Good Luck

Maybe what you need is a complete physical workup?  Bloodwork, hormones checked and all that.  And see an endocrinologist.....I think that's right.  Fuzzy would know what I'm getting at......she's a nurse I believe.

Good luck

Hi,

When I was first diagnosed with depression my only sympton was anxiety
and severe insomnia.  I resisted taking antidepressants because I didnt feel
I was depressed but I finally gave in and IT WORKED!  I took xanax to help
calm me down and prozac for the depression and eventually my life turned
back around.  I hope you find something that works for you soon

best wishes,
starr28

From your comment I am going to assume you live in the states and not Canada.  You have to pay for your medical, yes?  I agree, if you can afford to go to an endochrinologist, go!  They see things differently than GPs do.  It's a nasty cycle!  Anxiety- no sleep -no sleep- anxiety.  I think a lot of us can relate.  Personally, I was diagnosed with a sleep disorder when I was sixteen.  Nobody has been able to help me.  Antidepressants worked for awhile - like an ADHD child on Ritalin- sleeping pills helped for awhile.  But living on those things were not an option for me.  I hate pills!  Anyway,  if you can afford it, what really helped me with my insomnia and sleep disorder, as well as the anxiety and depression that comes with it was acupuncture!  I know is sounds crazy.  I never thought I would  advocate acupuncture, but I cannot believe the difference in myself since staring it  a month ago.  It has changed my life!
God be with you in whatever you decide.  No sleep can't make anyone a little crazy.  Everything you are experiencing is normal.  Hang in there.

This is why I love this place.  I never would have thought of acupuncture.  I have the sleep, anxiety and depression issues since childhood also.  Man, if all that went away I'm afraid I wouldn't know how to act!!

Thanks so much for that suggestion and I would be interested in hearing updates on your progress.

Best of luck!!!!!

To: everyone
I appreciate your help. I really do you have no idea. Since my last doctors visit was very expensive (yes I live in the states) I don't think I'm going to go back right away. I'm afraid even if I do try another doctor it might turn into the same experience as my last one. I will look into acupunture! Hopefully that will work. If not then I will see if I can afford to go to an endochrinologist. Then if that doesn't work I guess I will go ahead and try an anti depressant. It's hard because it's one of those things that I used to say would never happen to me. I had complete bloodwork tests ran about 7 or 8 months ago for some tiny red spots showing up on my skin (looked like I was bleeding under the skin). Everything was normal except my white blood cells were a little low. They said I might be anemic or something, Anyway the doctor I saw said there was no need to do more blood tests. So I took his word for it, I mean he's the doctor. Thankyou very much for your advice. =) I will go look into the acupuncture thing today.

An update for acupuncture...
I have had two treatments for depression and to help me with withdrawal symptoms.  No more depression!!!!!  YEAH!!!!!!!   I still get the brain zaps, but even they are diminishing.  Not nearly as often nor as strong.  I am still having a little trouble with mood swings, but nothing severe.  My headaches are completely gone.
Other things I noticed right away with my acupuncture was my sleep patterns.  I am now sleeping through the night almost every night.  I have had a sleep disorder (diagnosed about the age of sixteen) for as long as I can remember.  The other thing that changed was my ... constitution.  Every day now instead of every 2-3 days.  YEAH!!!  She started working on  my intestine meridian.  Amazing!  Who would have guessed?
