yoga/meditation relief for symptoms

by clgstd, Mar 24, 2008 01:41PM
Hey all...I'm a 22 year old male college student. I've always been a worrier and my anxiety symptoms started after i thought i got an STD from this girl i slept with. I've been tested 8 weeks after and the doctor said i'm fine, but somehow i didn't believe him and I went to think I have MS or a brain tumor or something terrible. I feel dumb because I have 0 family history of health problems so doc pretty much threw all those autoimmune diseases out the window. Plus I'm extrememly strong and athletic so its all anxiety i hope/think. Anyway my symptoms are very slight brain fog and very slight unbalance... also my legs feel wierd sometimes, but go away with exercise. Oh and I have restless leg syndrome so that explains that. but it all goes away when i'm lifting weights or running or playing sports... also when i'm sitting down relaxing. basically whenever I'm doing something to release endorfins or take my mind off my body i feel better. I also take 1mg xanax around 3 times a day... Anyway thats my story...

What this really is about is I'm wondering if yoga/meditation has helped anybody in their symptoms? I have had some success with yoga/meditation. I am a huge supporter of it and I really think anybody with these conditions should try it. The use of the breathing exercises along with the meditation are a huge help for me. The yoga releases the tension in my joints and muscles. So if anybody is looking for any alternative plans besides pills, I highly recomend this. Also I have one question...has anybody been on xanax and had it stop working as well over time? and if they did what did you switch too that helped...

Thanks

You take 1 mg of Xanax 3 times a day?  That is a lot!  Xanax is for "as needed" use only.  It's not supposed to be taken daily.  Klonopin is used for the long term and if you browse the archives of this forum, you'll find pleeeeenty of info on Klonopin.

Anyway, meditation helped me.  Don't care much for pills myself.

xanax will eventually stop working for you. but first you will  keep having to increase your dose, tolerance will occur rather quickly. raine9 is correct. if you need a benzo for long term management of anxiety/panic klonopin is a waaaaaaay safer alternative than xanax and ativan. research klonopin on this site and posts by RCA/ryan.

meditation, exercise, yoga all help alot. so does CBT therapy. you can look that up online also.
