I am 42 yo female. Married, w/4 children, in a monogamous relationship for 20 years.
I asked you a question about 2 weeks ago regarding 3 yeast infections in 6 cycles...
No med/sur history.Since November, I have had 6 cycles...every other cycles, I have gotten a yeast infection ( never had one prior to this). All three times, tx successfully w/ Diflucan Q 3 days X 3 pills..Only once have I had it tested by a culture, but I am sure the other times, it was a yeast infection as well.
Each time, it starts on day 16 or Day 17 of my cycle, right after  I ovulate (I usually ovulate on day 14 or 15).

Went to the gyn. she did a ton of cultures, everything came back normal except for " mycoplasma hominis". she was not concerned at all with this.
She said she wanted to check me again for yeast, and if it comes back negative, then she would think about treating me for this.
THe issue is that I am allergic to penicillan, erythromycin and bactrim.

SHe said that it doesn't necessarily cure it, and I could have had it all my life.- again she was not too concerned with this.

My questions are:
1. could this be the cause of the yeast infections?

2. do I have to treat it, and if not will I be ok? ( I'm done having children)

3. does my husband need to be treated?

4. can this cause any long term problems??

Thanks for your thoughts on this.

Your gyn is correct.  Mycoplasma hominis is complelely normal.  It is present in everybody's genital tract (male and female) at least some of the time; at any point in time, over half of all women carry it in their vaginas.  It doesn't cause disease.

1) No. M. hominis is not a yeast and doesn't cause yeast-like symptoms.

2, 3) Neither you nor your husband needs treatment.

4) It causes no health problems.  The rare exception is that once in a while, M. hominis can contribute to illess following childbirth, i.e. infection in the uterus.  But so do any number of other normal vaginal bacteria.
