Need advice about strange symtoms

by SuperKim, Mar 25, 2008 07:28AM
OK, I need help with this one ladies.  I am 2 rounds down - 4 to go of taxotere/carboplatin (one taxol that didn't go well).
I have some strange symptoms and would like advice from anyone who recognizes them.

1. extremely itchy (and gross) breakout on my scalp and down the back of my neck. (I have just a little hair left)
2. red, splotchy "burns?" on the backs of my hands (the fade in and out and burn when under hot water)
3. and this morning there are 2 lumps on my lower neck, directly below my ears (will be calling the doctor on this one)

So far I have tried: benadryl, clariton, hydrocortizone cream, steroid cream, and Head & Shoulders sensitive scalp shampoo. I think the Benadryl is keeping things from getting worse, but not actually making anything go away.

Oh, in case anyone is interested, I was diagnosed Dec 18th, 07 with stage IIIB ovarian cancer. One total hysterectomy, one laparoscopy, and two ports (the IP is no longer working and only survived one treatment) Both drugs are being administered from the IV port now. :)

I don't really know, I would definitely let the doc or his RN know all about ALL of your
symptoms.  Sometimes with the Taxanes there can be mild allergic reactions which can mean red skin, and is frequently pre-medicated with low-dose medrol or the like.  Also,
redness can be a sign of infection or cellulitis, in which case it should be hot as hell, inflamed, and very painful ----- requiring antibiotics.  I am not a doctor, and it really does not sound like either an allergic reaction or an infection.  So please commuicate with the
nurse, even after hours if you need to.  Best of Luck.  They are your best resources, or even your internist or GP.   Good Luck with everything.
