scratched eye

by bean82597, Mar 25, 2008 11:59AM
Hi-

About a month or so ago, I flipped one of my car keys into my eye, scratching it. I have had no vision problems, it was slightly red, but otherwise, it was fine.

Over the last couple of weeks, I wake in the middle of the night, and if I try to open that eye, the pain is too much--it's like there is a particle in it. I can open it slowly. During the day it's fine, but the past couple days, it's gotten worse. I can feel something all the time, and it has been tearing up today. I need to see a dr., but does it sound like an infection? Why it wasn't really irritated like this initially is my concern. Why only now is it bothering me? Thanks.

You have recurrent erosion syndrome. Use the search feature to read about it. THen get in to see an Eye MD ophthalmologist. Tell her/him you think you have recurrent corneal erosion (RES) syndrome.
