I am so worried

Hi,
Since it is so easy to catch herpes virus….there are several questions that I need to find out…to make my life better…Thanks.
Just about a week ago, one of my friends and I had shared a drink through straw and I found out she had a cold sore out break on her lips the day after. And today, I feel my throat hurts…I start to wonder whether I got herpes virus through her. This weekend she is going to cook and have a party at her house. I wonder how likely I will get the virus (if I don’t have it now) by eating the food she cooks and going to her house. What can I do if she visits my house?
After reading other people’s cases, those who are infected without having sex, I feel like I am becoming a germ phobic. -- I read about the chance to be infected by sharing a drink is “unlikely”, I wonder how “unlikely” it is.
One more question, she does not have much knowledge about herpes (she has the HSV-1) because she thinks it is so common since her parents and a lot of people around her have it too. What can I do to make her be more aware of it, and how serious it is?

Thanks.  I really really appreciate your answer!

It isn't serious, and many people do have it.  Your parents and grandparents probably have it.

You won't get it from what she cooks, going to her house, or her going to your house.

Relax.  Seriously.  You might already have it and not know it.

Unlikely means that you probably won't get it from sharing a drink.  I'm still a bit leery of sharing drinks, etc., because you can get colds, flus, etc., that way, and I don't want any of that.  You are far more likely to get one of those than hsv1.

Just relax, and if you think the germ thing is really becoming a phobia, get some help for it.

Thanks for the response.  But I think even though a lot of people have it, does not make it less serious...since you cannot get rid of it once you have it, unlike cold, flu...etc..  Also, it can be trasfered to different parts of the body unlike cold or flu.
But again thanks for trying to help.

You are clearly uninformed about herpes. You might want to start doing some reading to get up to speed on it. Herpes doesn't get trasfered[sic] to different parts of the body. And for the majority of people, herpes doesn't cause medical problems, so in that sense it's not "serious."

But again thanks for playing.
