Toddle Losing Weight

by SmlSmalls, Mar 26, 2008 11:47AM
I read the question about a toddle losing "percentiles."  My toddle is actually losing weight.  He is 18 months old and is down to 21 lbs.  He has never gotten over 23 pounds, but he has dropped both percentage and pounds.  We have tried to keep his cup for only at meal times, but he still eats very seldom.  And short of actually forcing the food in his mouth, the only veges he will eat is potatoes.  I am at a loss because I don't want him to be unhealthy and lowon the weight, but I have NO clue what to do.

If fluids are the only food he is really 'eating' then it should be very nutrient dense. Suggest giving him Pedisure at all meals and a snack mid afternoon and at night before bed cup of Pedisure and food such as cheese or fruit or crackers or type of meat. Or make a milkshake of Pedisure and fruit (banana/ strawberries) whipped in a blender to give to him, which has additional vitamins and minerals. If he likes yogurt give that it him for a meal. Main point is to relax. It is important that mealtime does not become a battlefield of the wits. You need to enjoy your meals as much as he does. After mealtimes are calmer, try to introduce some food (one item at a time) to him. If he refuses, then do not become upset. Let it go. The Pedisure will give him what he needs. Try again after a few months. Hope this helped you and thank you for your question.
