Jerking movements whilst sleeping

by JARA, Mar 27, 2008 03:39PM
I have a 5 yr old girl with type 1 diabetes.  When put to bed in the evening for about the first 80 minutes whilst sleeping she seems to have jerking motions ranging from her legs/arms/hands/body/feet that jerk periodically, they are not violent motions just very slight movements.  They do settle after a while but wonder if this is a related condition of diabetes.

I don't think it sounds like seizures, but I am not a doctor and cannot diagnose symptoms.
I think you should mention this to your doctor and see what she has to say.
I wonder if she did this before the diabetes was diagnosed and you just didn't notice.
I have a five year old son(not diabetic) who takes a while to fall into a deep sound sleep.  He turns and jerks around quite a bit before he falls asleep.  My daughter on the other hand does not move much at all when she falls asleep and it seems like she sleeps more peacefully.   So, I wonder if it is just her nature or pattern for falling asleep.
