Need Advice

by MiaP, Mar 27, 2008 05:58PM
My husband was diagnosed with Hepatitis C over three years ago and is under doctors care.  He was good about taking his medication and doctor visits, but continued to drink.  His doctor is now sending him to a specialist and the only thing I know is that he is ESLD from paperwork I saw on the counter.  His current doctors staff will not give me any information due to privacy laws not even general questions.  Early this morning I was awoke by a loud thud and assumed he had passed out, since I have had to rush him to the hospital with varies on three occasions.  He did not acknowledge me, but instead went back to bed.  He has been sleeping all day without eating or drinking.  Is this normal for this disease?  He is still swollen, even though he has been recently drained.  He refuses to inform me of his condition, especially what I need to know as care taker.  Can someone please help in letting me know what to expect and do?  Is he dying?

liver failure does cause mental confusion.
sleeping all the time i think is pretty standard.
i dont know that theres much you can do except get him to eat.
the only other thing i know is that this can go on for a while and he
may bounce back up some.
google this,  esld, esld forum or liver transplant forum, they should have
more advice and also you can read up on the subject.

im guessing he wont get any help for the drinking...i know how that is my friend billy is/was the same way and sounds like he is in pretty much the same shape...

if he doesnt stop drinking doing tx is pretty useless i would think ... and the tx drugs have so many side effects themselves why would anyone put themselves thru that and still drink i just dont get it...

and yes him sleeping all the time and not eating or drinking anything is pretty much how it is when someone is really sick with this and liver failure will cause mental confusion, all those toxins in the body are not being filtered out because the liver is not working
