Broken Foot & CIDP patient

by drosenjr, Mar 28, 2008 09:48PM
I am a survivor of CIDP for 8 years now. I continue my regiment of treatments of IVIG every several months for the past 6 years. Prior to IVIG, I did plasmapheresis for 1 yr. totaling 55 plasma treatments and so far a total of (ironically) 55 IVIG ending in Mar 2008. I am handling my ordeal very well considering where I have been and what I am today. Cannot complain.

I had an accident and fell down the steps at my home. My feet have been dead pretty much for 8 yrs. I broke the second bone on the big toe in 6 places in a spiral pattern. Tore ligaments in the ankle and knee. It has been 5 weeks now, still swollen badly, no longer black and blue. BUT I have had 3 sets of X-rays, cannot have MRI because of spinal chord stimulator for pain from CIDP for feet, the breaks are as significant today as they were 5 weeks ago. They do not appear to be healing at all. My Dr, unfamiliar with Guillian Barre / CIDP wonders if the autoimmune disorder is hampering my healing because of the lack of circulation in my feet. The pain has been incredibly awful. My pain Dr. stepped up to the plate and helped relieve the pain, although my Orthopedic Dr. never discussed pain management to me whatsoever. AM I in for a very long recovery because of my condition? I am in relatively good health aside from the CIDP. Although I do have disabilities due to CIDP. I am a 51 yr old male, 6 ft, 215 lbs.
