benzo users...

I'm going off my buspar - I can't take the side effects.  I had a panic attack this morning because the side effects of the buspar just got the best of me.
I took 2.5mg of valium and I felt good - normal.  Does anyone just take a certain benzo and not the daily drugs?
I'm awaiting to see another doc since my ex-doc is totally useless - he won't even talk with me.
Thanks

thanks again for all your help people :)  Yeah, the buspar was a botch!  But at least I tried it so I know.  I feel like a human guinea pig.

if you want long term treatment for panic/anxiety klonopin would be your best benzo choice. valium, does work for anxiety but does not have the anti-panic properties of klonopin. i would stay away from the shorter acting benzo's like xanax and ativan. they work and work well for a few months then tolerance becomes an issue, then they stop working after awhile and then withdrawl is tuff. klonopin has a longer half life and is longer acting. it's smoother, easier to taper off of and if taken twice a day 12 hours apart it will not give you the ups and downs of xanax or ativan. it will give you 24 hour coverage and some peace, so you can work though your issues in therapy, by doing cbt and making proper lifestyle changes. i'm no dr. but that's my .2cents from personal experience from what i've heard from other users and from pdocs.

buspar? haha sorry u had to fumble around with that stuff. not very useful stuff.

God Bless

Valium would be better to stick with over Ativan.  Ativan is short acting.  Valium is long acting, which is better for you if you think you may need it more than occasionally and won't produce the rebound anxiety that Ativan would.

Good luck!

I have ativan here but I had a bad reaction to it.  Made me SO dizzy - I would fall over and my muscles had NO strength.  I was prescribed to take 1mg. 3 times a day!  I only took 1/2 of a .5mg a couple times a day and I guess it built up in my system and caused me problems.  I'm wondering about just sticking with valium.  I have no problems with it.

I have been taking ativan for two yrs now with no problems. I only tak .5mg twice daily. In fact my doc want me to take the .5mg three times daily or 1mg twice daily. Im a bit nervous to do that. I can go for days with out with no problem but for the most part its everyday. I do notice that if I dont take it at night I wake up in the middle of night and cant go back to sleep or I have trouble falling asleep. If I take it I do fine. Im not sure if that small dose is really doing anything for me during the daytime. If it helps me with my anxiety I dont care if I have to take it for ever. Im thinking of taking zoloft or some sort of SSRI but I do have heart arrthymias and im concerned about that. Klonopin two doses of that made me sick so never took it again. never tried xanax.

I just w/d from klonopin. i only took it 15 days, i hallucinated cried uncontollably. i am very med sesitive i guess. i would make sure you see a good dr. xanax is a bad drug the way you feel the next day is terrible. the w/d affects will pass, hang in there. i have spoken to many people who had no w/d problems with klonopin but it sure was hell for me.

I have valium and it does well with me.  I don't take much.  What were some of the w/d effects of xanax?

Please be very careful what you get yourself on! Xanax, if taken longer than a couple months at MOST, is a nightmare to w/d from. I'd go with the Klonopin or diazepam (Valium) which is quite easy to w/d from. But you really need to discuss all of these things with your doctor in detail. Don't hesitate to ask them about the w/d process when it comes time to stop these meds, and if they don't know off the top of their head, RUN AWAY! They have no buisness prescribing meds for you they don't totally understand themselves! If you think the side effects of Buspar were bad, try some w/d effects of Xanax! Really, really ugly.

I tried the SSRIs to help with anxiety.  They have never done anything for anxiety at all for me.  The only med that works for panic attacks for me is xanex.  I kept trying the SSRIs hoping that they would work, and while they did work for depression, they never did a thing for either generalized anxiety disorder or panic disorder for me.
