swimming induced hives/rashes

by swimmer22, Mar 30, 2008 02:52PM
I'm a serious swimmer, and for the past month or two i've been getting pretty regular skin rashes after swimming.  Some are worse than others, but mostly hives on my chest, back, and legs.  I've swum for seven years, but only started experiencing this issues recently.  They usually clear up about 30 minutes to two hours after I exit the pool. Any idea what might be causing it? or solutions?

Hi,

You could be having swimmers itch or cercarial dermatitis.

Do not swim in contaminated water and try steroid ointment local application, calamine lotion local application, cool compresses and oral antihistmaine medications.

You can still swim as long as the water is clean, well maintained and chlorinated.

You should consult your doctor if your symptoms still persist.

Let us know if you have any other doubts or queries.

Post us on how you are doing.

Regards.
