Rise in blood sugar after 6-8 hours night fasting

by DThimling, Mar 31, 2008 08:09AM
I have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.  I am not on any drugs. I am trying to control the blood sugar by exercise, no alcohol, and diet.  I am not over weight and am under a Dr's care.  Sometimes my blood levels will spike to 143 first reading in the morning and be normal the rest of the day??  Is there a reason for this? Thank -you.

Hi.  I'm not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes.  Honeytheone's comment is accurate.  Dawn Phenomenon is caused by the liver dumping our glucose in the morning to help your body get moving and started for the day.  If you are trying not to take any insulin to correct that, then there is likely not much you can do.  Exercise and diet are absolutely a great way to help overall, but that won't affect the Dawn Phenomenon.
