Regular family doctors (MD's) are not trained in the treatment or diagnosis of mental illness. Yes, they can legaly perscribe Psycotropic medications, but you would be wise to see a specialist in mental health.
Most Doctors and Psychiatrist are reluctant to perscribe antidepressant and anti-anxiety medication to any patient under the age of 18. The reason for this is because for unexplained reasons there is documanted proof that AD medications can be very dangerous for teens. Often times in very young people these medications can make matters much worse.
I'm not saying you don't need medication, I'm just saying that these meds are nothing to play around with and people need to make damn sure that they really need them to function before considering treatment with them.
People who take Psycotropic medications that do not truly need them often tend to have disasterous results. These meds should only be taken if it is 100% absolutly nessasary to acheive normal productive functioning.
