Thank you for your support.  I know all about excuses but this is not an excuse.  I am in excrutiating pain (can't spell either) and I'm about at my wits end.  When I originally started taking the oxy, I took it as prescribed and it was the only thing that worked.  Unfortunately I then found out if you took a little more, and then a little more, etc., it made me feel really good.  After abusing the oxy for a couple of years, I came off of them, not my choice, I ran out in two weeks instead of a month.  But since I was out of the oxy and going thru the w/d's, I decided to see if I could make it without them.  In the beginning, it didn't seem like the pain was an issue.  I was so sick with the flu-like symptoms that I just stayed in bed for a week.  And of course I'm still dealing with the sleep problems but that's getting a little better.  Then the pain started coming back and I've tried everything under the sun and I still haven't caved.  But yesterday was such a awful painful day and then today all over again, I just don't know if it's worth it.  I have made it 19 days clean so far.  But thank you for saying ya'll are there for me.  That makes a world of difference.

If you haven't, please talk to your doctor (or, get a second opinion) on alternative medications.

Whey I was diagnosed with Post Polio Syndrome and lower back pain due to deteriorating nerve coverings, my physician presribed a series of rotating medications.  I would take a different medication every week.   The idea was to keep me from become dependent on the opiate medication.

I'm sure they know even more, now, than back then about how to rotate medications to keep you comfortable as well as non-dependent.

Please don't suffer...ask  your physciain for help.

I have been thinking about calling my dr.  But he doesn't even know that I quit the oxy.  Because when refill time came around, and as a lot of the people on this board know, I had the oxy refilled and stuck it in a sock and hid it in the very back of my closet.  I was aiming at making 30 days clean and then flushing the oxy.  And I really haven't been thinking about it all the time like I used to.  I was doing so well and achieving pain control with other methods and then it's like this crippling pain returned all at once yesterday.  I made it thru yesterday and thought today would be better.  It's just as bad.  But I am probably going to call the dr. because I just can't keep going like this.  Thank you for your input.  It's very much appreciated.

Hi I'm rock or Joe what ever you want to use. I have similar problems mine was from a motorcycle accident 15 years ago. I went c/t from 1700mg oxy a day for 30+ days my back was killing me I found aleve helped a lot. My pain got so bad the doc had to put me back on a lower dose till he can find the exact problem. I still have pain and find Ibuprofen + Acetaminophen helps at regular doses.

Does that mean you are now free from narcotics, opiates, whatever?  I do take Arthristis Tylenol which seems to give me a little relief.  I've tried all the other, aleve, etc. but none of that seems to faze it.

I feel your pain.  I now live with 6 titanium pins in my lower back.  Like many of us I abused the oxycontin and had to quit.  I was on suboxone but took my last dose on Sunday.  My doctor gave me Lidoderm  which is a lidocaine patch 5%.
This is not a narcotic and has worked very well for me.  You put it directly on your skin in the area with the pain.  You keep the patch on for 12 hours. Just a thought that this maybe an option for you.  Good luck.

try calling your doctor and telling him that your having pain, but no longer want to take high dose pain meds, ask for something not so strong, like darvocet ro vicodan, there's a big difference in oxy and hydro, but bith are equally addicting. most drs are pretty easy to work with when you ask for a lower dose, they are pretty understanding. you have to remember they see so may pts constantly wanting MORE, they're happy to help someone wanting LESS.
let me know if i can help anymore.

Tink is right.  Health professionals are glad to help us not take addictive drugs.

Today, I went to the dentist (lots of work ahead).   I told him to chart that I did NOT want vicodin, codeine, or percodan in the future.

In fact, I charged him with finding a non-opiate pain killer.  To my surprise, he said there were a couple, just made for dentistry, and he would be sure I got them in the future.

He did ask my reason for avoiding the opiates.  I told him those meds gave me severe constipation and I was afraid of falling when they made me so groggy.  I suspect he knows the real reason, but was gracious enough to accept my PC reasons.

Afterward, I did ask his assistant why the dentist seemed so releaved and eager to help find alternative medication.  She said that he is afraid of losing his license for overprescribing (not for me, but other patients).

So, I think Tink is right.  The doctors want to reduce their risk of scrutiny and will gladly help.

I am definitely going to call my dr. tomorrow.  And he is a good doctor and I think he's proud of me.  I gave up hydrocodone a couple of months ago.  So I had been taking oxy and hydrocodone but I didn't really have w/d's from the hydrocodone.  I think it's because at the time I quit them, I was still on the oxy.  Thanks to all of you for your suggestions and support.  Much appreciated,

No not free now but at a dose that just helps the w/ds and pain will have to start taper soon. C/T was to much for me because of pain and physical w/ds were causing health issues. I was on such a large amount  of narcotics c/t was not a good decision I made. Now I'm following doctors orders with new pain doctor and hope to be free of all narcotics soon!
