Pre-Existing Problem

by vicjay, Mar 31, 2008 11:12PM
In June 2007, I felt like blacking out, and visited my Doctor. He ran an EGK and interpreted the result as a heart attack. He called 911 and had me taken to ER for further examination. In the ER, they ran my blood, chest xray etc., and told me that there was no sign of heart attack. I was not on insurance at the time. Shortly after that episode I signed up with Blue Cross BS, and on the application stated that I had visited the ER with chest pain and dizziness. They didn't disqualify me, accepted me as a subscriber, and I began paying premiums. In August, I was rushed to ER again, with the exact same issue, and was admitted for four days while they ran MRI, Echo, Stress, blood work etc. No known diagnosis was given apart from Frequent PVC's. My Doctor referred me to a Cardiologist. She gave me an event monitor, no diagnosis apart from the PVC's. She tried four different medications all to no avail. She then referred me to an Electrophysiologist and he ran tests on me, and suggested that due to the number of PVC's I was having (in excess of 30 000 a day) that I have a Catheter ablation study. The first procedure was performed in December 2007, and was unsuccessful. He rescheduled a second procedure for February, and that was successful in that the PVC's were practically eliminated. I am now 7 weeks out of surgery, and my chest still hurts, i am going back this week for an Echocardiogram to find out what is causing the pain in the center of my chest as well as dizziness etc.

The big problem I am having is that because I listed chest pain and dizziness on my application, no claims have been paid and i am being sent to collections for $180 000. I know that there is a clause for "pre-existing" conditions where no claims will be paid for 12 months. The problem is that chest pain and dizziness is not a diagnosis. How do I recover from this nightmare bil lsituation, especially in view of the fact that I need medical help? Please can you assist me in this nightmare...?
