Reoccuring fever every 3 weeks

by RavensMommy, Apr 01, 2008 09:22PM
My son is 14 months old and appears to be very healthy. Please read my post and help me

In June of last year my son started running a fever just after having his routine vaccinations, I assumed it was just a reaction and was monitoring him at home until the fever started getting up to 104-105. I took him to the doctor where he was tested for several illnesses and had blood drawn (high white blood cell count). We were told it was probably a virus and were sent home. Then every three weeks, until December, he ran a fever for 3-4 days. Each time his CBC showed a high White Blood Cell Count and when he had it done his C Reactive Protein (???) was high. Then as suddenly as they started they stopped, until now. He had RSV mid February and ran a fever as high as 104, then 3 weeks later had a fever w/high White Blood Cell Count, then this weekend we had the scarriest episode ever. On Wednesday he was perfectly normal, then late Wednesday night he woke up with a fever of 102. I opted to watch him and see what happened on Thursday and if was getting worse the Doctor said bring him in. Come Friday his fever was running 104, 105--we would give Tylenol/Motrin every 3 hours and the fever would stay down for 2 1/2 hours the shoot back up. When we went to the doctor he did the CBC and CRP tests, the WBC was higher than ever and the CRP was higher than ever. He decided to send us home and told us if it got worse to call him (since he was on call all weekend). On the way home his temp rose to 106.3 and we turned around and went back to the office. Once back there we were admitted to the hospital and immediately started the antibiotics (after another CBC, urinalyis, and blood culture was drawn). Well he still ran a fever in the hospital, it was 104.8 Friday night, and 101 on Saturday. We stayed and on Sunday more blood work was drawn. Even w/antibiotics his CBC was still a little high but his CRP had increased even more. The blood culture grew nothing and the urinalyisis was clean, the urine culture showed nothing.

My question to you is have you ever seen this before? I am desperate for some help. We are paying a fortune in doctor bills b/c we go 2-3 days every episode every 3 weeks. We are behind on our 1 year shots b/c everytime we end up w/some illness.

Please help me!!!!!!

Also, when we do go to the doctor his lymph nodes are sometimes a little enlarged and I think he may get headaches during the spells, b/c he will pull his hair and squint during the spells
