hypoglycemia

How do I read a 3 hour GTT for hypoglycemia. I have been having some pretty clear symptoms pretty regular lately but am having trouble getting my doctor to understand. He has taken a BMP and done the GTT but things are coming back normal. He has not tested me at any point while I was having symptoms. Is there anything I can do?

HI,
I may have answered this question before...
The best way to do this is to check your own sugars while having symptoms. If you are having symptoms coupled with documented low sugars, that is all you need. Many doctors do not do the 3-hour OGTT anymore for this diagnosis.

An alternative would be to simply make the dietary changes needed to treat reactive hypoglycemia--avoid heavy carb loads, and instead have several small mixed meals(small carb, protein and fat in one meal) during the day.

Hope this helps,take care.
