My daughter refuses to eat.....

by s_thakur, Apr 04, 2008 02:05AM
My daughter is 1yr 9 months old. Although she is active and a playful child, however, she refuses to eat and it takes lots of tantrums to make her eat even one proper meal. It is very rare that she eats well. I try to make different things to tempt her, however, she has no interest in food. We try to feed her when we are eating but all she does is throw the food here and there. All she is fond of is my feed and finally wins over by crying and not eating for hours. She is quite tricky and finally ends up with this and not eating anything. Her pediatrician suggests that as long as the child is active, it is nothing to worry and will eat whenever she is hungry. But this does not satisfy me any longer as I cannot bear feeding her my breast milk anymore for a long time. She tries to suffice her appetite only with my feed. Please advise?

toddlers at her age are very hard to please, especially when feeding. My 2 year old daughter had days that she only had milk /regular milk/ but eventually that goes away. Try with something that she really likes - like fruits, yogurt even cheerios... I have noticed that sometimes introducing new food to her helped her and she ate out of curiosity. There were times though that she will only eat familiar foods.
Don't stress about it. Living on milk 1 or 2 days for young toddlers is normal.
Don't give any fluid before trying to feed her another meal though. That will kill the appetite.
Also try involving her in the cooking process. Yes, my daughter loves to sit on the kitchen counter and watch me cooking, let her stir, touch what are you going to throw in the pan...
Turn the light on in the oven and let her watch how you bake...
Have her sit with someone else to eat to - a family member or a child works best. Invite her friends over sometime and after hours of playing watch them eat together...
Or just have her doll sit next to her and feed the doll:))
Good luck
