lantus side effects

Since I started Lantus insulin, I have been sick with flu-like symptoms almost non-stop all winter. Could this be a side-effect of this insulin? I had tried Levimar just before changing to Lantus and my blood pressure went very high so the dr. changed me over and now this. Have I just had a bed winter or could this be the cause?
