Anyone have any info on trying to regulate yourself with PCOS???

by cmmurph, Apr 06, 2008 03:16PM
In the last year and a half my doctors have tried alot of  different things on me to try to make me have a period and ovulate...while I am on Provera I have a period but nothing so far has been able to make me ovulate. I have had a HSG test and my tubes are perfect.. I have take Clomid up to 200 mg, Femara (which I cant tolerate), they have given me several rounds of the trigger shot but nothing seems to make me ovulate...my current doctor is now referring me to an RE to have me put on injectible drugs...he told me that I would have a higher risk since I have ovaries that tend to over stimuate without ovulation...I asked what that meant and he said a small percent I could die...well that freaked out my husband and he is not too sure if he wants me to do that. I told him its about the same as having surgery and not waking from anestesia..but since the doctor said I would have a higher risk he just doesnt like that.  Anyway, I wanted to ask if anyone has started a low carb diet and lost weight and had any luck regulating themselves and getting pregnant.. any supplements that you took, special exercise, anything.. I just want to hear peoples stories to help me along the way. I want to try to lose a few pounds ( I weight 165 and am 5'7.... so I want to lose between 15- 20 pounds. I have tried lots of exercise but I never seem to lose..it just stays th e same.)  SO any suggestions, ideas, thoughts.. I would love to hear. I do plan in the future to continue treatment once I have discussed with my husband and tried other options but I would like to be really healthy before anything.
Oh and today I started my very first period on my own...last month I was given provera and had the HSG test, trigger shot, and clomid and didnt ovulate but I did get a period on March 6.... this month I have had nothing but started a period today April 6 ..could this be a good sign??? Does the HSG test sometimes clear you out to have a period??? Sorry for so many questions...sometimes I just feel so lost in all of this.
Thanks Christy

Anyway, having your own period is a great sign. I got pregnant on my own while seeing my RE. I took b12 and b6 in high doses and my husband was on 1000mcg of vitamin C a day. I also watched my carb intake and eliminated simple sugars from my diet. An HSG test can clear your tubes, that part is true. Sometimes my RE said that we can have scar tissue or particles in our tubes that keeps the egg and the sperm from meeting and an HSG can actually clear it out. Chances are if you are getting a period on your own, you did ovulate. This month could be for you! Get some b12 immediately cause that will increase your chance of ovulation. Take the highest dose! B6 will regulate your cycle. If you havent done so have your husband take the vitamin C. It helps with his count and motility. Has he ever been tested? It was both my husband and I that were the problem. It worked for him! Good luck and I hope we hear some good news soon!

B6 and B12 is okay to take with metformin and the prenatal vitamin right???  If that can help my chances then I am going out today to get it. I will also have him take Vitamin C.
Its so frusterating going month to month and never knowing if you ovulated or not until the blood test...Thank you so much for your advice...hopefully this will help in the future for me.Do you have any children???

I have 3 children. 2 girls and a boy. No it will not hurt to take the extra vitamins at all. I did. Have you tried over the counter ovulation kits? I certainly remember the frustration. I took stock in home pregnancy tests. I swear I paid a fortune. The vitamin C will only help the little guys swim faster and better so it can't hurt! My husband and I were told we were infertile and the only way I could get pregnant was to lose weight and have invitro done. This is the same guy who also put me on Clomid and Redux, a weight loss drug that one of the side effects was birth defects in early trimester and was ticked off at me for not taking it! QUACK! Well I left him and went to an RE, did my own research, lost weight (16 pounds) and took the vitamins recommended and got pregnant on my own while with my RE. After 5 yrs of trying I got pregnant in 3 months!!!!! Best of luck to you!

I have tried ovulation kits, all show positive all month long..I think cause they said my LH is so high.  They just made me mad. The first time I used them I was sooo confused. All month I was ovulating?? hehehe..
Wow 3 kids..congrats to that. I will go get the B6  B12 and the Vitamin C for my husband today and make him take it...its so funny..we have been doing this for so long that it doesnt matter what I hand him.. I just say take it and there are no questions he just takes it..hahaha
Thank you for all of your help!!!!

Yeah that happened to me too. Always said I was ovulating when I wasn't. It gives you false hope. I did the same thing to my husband. He just laughed and took it. Hey he didn't laugh when just 3 months later I was pregnant! Did I tell you I told my cousin and his wife this and they got pregnant with twins!! It also took little time as well.  I really am praying for you and your husband. Have you been to soulcysters.com? They have a support network with forums. They have one for women who are trying to concieve.
Good luck and happy trying! ;)

Thank you for all of this,  I am in line on both sides of my family for twins.. I would love that. Getting new information always gives me hope for the time to come....its easy to get down each month. I will go to soulcysters.com, I have never been there but I will check it out...sometimes people who have been through all of this know so much more than the doctors. Thanks so much!!!

Hi Cosmogal:  Thank you so much for this information, I didn't start the post but I'm also benefiting from the information!

My husband and I have been trying to get PG for 3 years.  I've had two heartbreaking miscarriages in the past 6 months, but we're at least excited that I can get PG (with the help of Clomid).  I have PCOS, fibriod tumors, and several large cysts on my ovaries.  For the most part I've been taking it in stride, but lately it has been really hard.  Many of my friends have become PG in the first month or two of trying, and now I'm doing showers for all of them.  I am just looking for hope at this point.  If you have any other tips, please let me know!  Thanks, Kate
